Maundy Thursday – Good Friday – Holy Saturday mark the three most important days in the Christian faith.
In these three days we journey with the first believers and Jesus to the Upper Room to the Garden of Gethsemane, through the betrayal, arrest, trial, scourging, cross, death, burial and rising from the tomb…in one worship over three different days.
HOLY SATURDAY – Easter Vigil
Congregation enters worship space in silence. Observing stripped altar and cross with black cloth.
Service of Light is witnessed with the procession of the Pascal Candle entering the darkened sanctuary. A service of seven readings from Holy Scripture are read recalling the mighty acts of God that saved people of the promise from certain death. This is followed by a time of Baptismal remembrance calling the baptized to remember the promises of God graciously given to Children of Light. The vigil concludes dramatically with Hymn of Praise breaking into the darkness: lights are turned on, bells rung, darkness is replaced with new light & life…illuminating the mystery of Christ’s rising and departure from the tomb, the victory of life that conquers death. Holy Communion is celebrated and we are sent rejoicing singing “Christ the Lord is Risen Today!”
